Islam in Spain : ウィキペディア英語版 | Islam in Spain
Islam has had a fundamental presence in the culture and history of Spain. The religion was present in modern Spanish soil from 709 until 1614 beginning with Arab rule and ending with the Spanish Inquisition. During this Islamic period Spain was known as the Jewel of Europe. For key historical dates, see Timeline of the Muslim presence in the Iberian peninsula. Of the almost 1.6 million Muslims in Spain as of 2013, 71 percent are foreigners. Most of the Muslims presently residing in Spain are recent immigrants from North Africa, Western Asia, and South Asia. A smaller number are Spanish converts, estimated at between 20,000〔(In Spain, dismay at Muslim converts holding sway )〕 and 50,000.〔(Islam returns to a tolerant Andalucia )〕 The number of Muslims in Spain reached 1.85 million in 2014, as stated in the report from April, 2015.〔http://ucide.org/sites/default/files/revistas/estademograf14.pdf〕 ==History==
